The unprovoked bombing and sinking of USS Arizona on December 7, 1941, is a cornerstone of American history, alongside July 4 and September 11. Unfortunately, the 1,512 lives aboard the USS Arizona were seldom captured aside from their names etched into the marble of the Arizona Memorial's Shrine Wall. As the years go by, we lose the opportunity to learn more about our American heroes and share their stories with future generations. As of February 2020, there are only 2 remaining survivors of the USS Arizona.

The Lauren F. Bruner Foundation was founded by Lauren F. Bruner in 2015, although according to Lauren, he first began to share such a vision with friends both in Hawaii and on the mainland, along with the US Navy at Pearl Harbor, as early as 2000. At the time, Lauren, who had just turned 80, wanted to honor and preserve the legacy of his fellow crew members aboard USS Arizona and believed that his establishing a foundation would help to carry out the mission to:
  • Educate the general public
  • Support the maintenance and preservation of the USS Arizona Memorial
  • Aid Navy and Military families throughout the State of Hawaii and the United States
As the second to the last to leave the USS Arizona, Lauren understood and lived the urgency of preserving not only the wreckage that remains at the bottom of Pearl Harbor, but the existence of his crewmates who made the greatest sacrifice for our country. In his last communication with our Board of Directors, Lauren shared his final wish of his "Dream Gift to America"- individual portraits drawn of his 1,512 fellow crew members.

With Lauren's passing in September 10, 2019, the foundation, led by Executive Director Ed McGrath, vowed to fulfill his dream. We are a small, but mighty, team. If you would like to learn more about us or find ways to contribute, please contact us using the form below or at info@ussaz.org
