A year ago, when the COVID-19 pandemic started, Dyanne McGrath, retired designer, M.MAC, who is a member of the Lauren Bruner …foundation and heads its advisory board, began sewing face masks; first for family and friends, and then to raise money for Hawaii’s Homeless Veterans. Through our foundation, and from the sales of her masks, we were able to raise enough funds to purchase personal gifts for 250 “under the stars” Veterans; these Veterans who are actually living on the streets in Hawaii. Included in each personal gift bag, is a new, specially designed “VETERAN” t-shirt, toothpaste and toothbrush, and a special “VETERAN” mask that she also sewed. These gifts are being distributed by U.S.VETS and its director, Kimberley Cook. In addition to this, Dyanne has sewn 250 more masks for other Homeless Veterans in Hawaii and to date, she has sewn over 1000 masks. To continue this project, the foundation would like to send a second gift to the same Veterans, this one containing a new pair of shorts and a $25 gift card to purchase food from either McDonald’s or Zippy’s. Dyanne plans to send a second mask to each Veteran as well. Here is how you can help with this special program: Dyanne plans to continue sewing these special Veteran masks. By purchasing a Veteran mask, you will be able to help these Veterans in need. You may want to purchase one to honor the Veteran in your family: fathers, grandfathers, uncles, sons daughters, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Or you may want to gift a friend with this special mask, a good way to say “thank you for your service.” The oldest veteran now wearing one of our Veteran masks is Chet Bruner Danforth, who is 96 and Lauren Bruner’s younger brother. Chet is a Veteran of World War II and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. These masks are all hand sewn by Dyanne, and are 100% cotton and reusable. There are three different colorations, but each is affixed with the Veterans American flag. Each mask is offered for a $20.00 donation, which includes shipping. 100% Cotton "VETERAN" Face Masks Copyright © MMXX Lauren F. Bruner USS Arizona Memorial Foundation. All rights reserved. |
